Jackson National Community Fund Sponsors Blessings In A Backpack Grand Ledge

Blessings In A Backpack Grand Ledge has been awarded a $2,500 grant to provide weekend food survival backpacks to at-risk children at Beagle Elementary school beginning this fall.   Jackson National cares about the communities that they serve and live in through various efforts that impact the lives of children and the elderly such as the Alzheimer’s Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Boys and Girls Club, Ele’s Place, Judi’s House, Junior Achievement, The March of Dimes and Meals on Wheels.   We are thankful that they have  added Blessings In A Backpack Grand Ledge to that list of socially responsible efforts.

Local Business Steps Forward to “Feed the Cause”

Hungry Howie’s Pizza of Grand Ledge has stepped forward to help Blessings In  A Backpack Grand Ledge raise funds to provide weekend food survival backpacks for at-risk kids at Beagle Elementary School as part of a Hungry Howie’s “Feed The Cause” initiative.

For each “Feed The Cause” pizza ordered by request from Hungry Howie’s during the month of September (a large pizza with one topping) for $9.99, Hungry Howie’s will donate $2 to Blessings In A Backpack Grand Ledge.

“Feed the Cause gives our business a way to support local, charitable efforts for a month at a time,” says Steve Bubb, Jr., Director of Marketing at Hungry Howie’s.   “Grand Ledge residents can grab a pizza, while at the same time know that they’re helping to provide food for children who may not have enough food to eat on the weekends.”

Be sure to request the “Feed the Cause” pizza!

Thanks to Superintendent Brian Metcalf of the Grand Ledge School District, we have a home for our Blessings In A Backpack Grand Ledge project.

Room 1 will be used for food storage
Room 2 will be used for packing backpacks

While it doesn’t look like much now, these two rooms at the Sawdon Administration Building will be bustling with volunteer activity this fall as volunteers pack weekend food survival backpacks every week during the school year for at-risk children at Beagle Elementary School.

For every $80 donated, a child on the free and reduced lunch program will receive a backpack full of kid-friendly, nutritious food to sustain them over the weekends so that they show up on Mondays ready to learn.

To donate to our effort, please click here: DONATE NOW Read the directions carefully and designate “Grand Ledge” as the recipient of your donation.

Can’t afford $80 right now? You can make recurring, monthly donations on your credit card. Any amount you can donate will be welcome, and remember that 100% of your donation goes to feeding the children. We are a 100% volunteer-run effort. Our national Blessings In A Backpack organization, a 501(c)(3), does their own fundraising through foundations to pay for their operating costs and salaries.
